The Challenge:
In 2016, a utility company set out to help its commercial customers save money every month on energy bills. Their goal was to help customers take the necessary steps to improve their business’s energy efficiency. The focus was to concentrate on energy-efficient lighting and lighting equipment.
The Method:
With guidance from Electrification Corporation, this utility company offered rebates to business customers for replacing outdated incandescent lighting with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and high-efficiency T8 linear fluorescent tubes. Furthermore, these customers received rebates of 35% when they bought highly efficient lamps and ballasts. Moreover, they offered a 0% interest loan program for lighting upgrades through various local lenders.
The Result:
In 2016, 55 commercial customers received a combined $400,000 in rebates for installing LED lighting and other various energy-efficient equipment. Excitingly, this is 9% more than the prior year. One particular credit union earned over $11,000 alone. In addition to their rebates, customers will enjoy a projected savings of $55,000 on energy bills yearly.
